Many times the video on the powerpoint presentation doesn't start correctly so what I am doing is making copies of the video with the slide number involved and naming them in the format of "Slide Number_Slide Name" so they can be run manually using Windows Media Player.  The majority of the video's work on my W95 machine (If you have a newer machine to use, that would be great) and since the machine has Powerpoint 2000 on it, the slide show works as well but not all features.  The main issue with some of the slides is that some click functions advance automatically (The Q&A sections, and some pictures within the slide for example).  Nothing major that would prevent use though and the majority work as expected.

If a video doesn’t work, make sure Windows Explorer is open before starting slide show and then use “alt tab” to choose it and then the video you wish to play.  To start and pause the video's, make sure you click on the video and not the slide.  You can use “alt tab” to get back to the slide show and then click on the slide to go to the next.  A minor issue is that on some of the longer video's the PC can't keep up with the memory buffering so there could be a 3 or 4 second delay where it pauses before continuing.  The majority of the video's will work in the slide show but to advance to the next slide, click on the slide and not the video frame.  To pause the video, click on it.  Clicking on it again will start it from where you stopped.

The video's that won't play are:

92    Helmet

95    Clothing

99    Preride Check

Joe mentioned that you would use regular video's where needed so you will need the one that covers these topics.

I have a speaker set that should work well enough until the Trail Association can get one for the meeting room.

Might I suggest a couple of laser pointers for class interaction and questions related to pictures on the slide show so students can answer questions ("show me the snowmobile kill switch" on the slide.  Point to where can you ride in this picture.  Etc.).  If only two (or one for each row?), there shouldn't be time for distractions as they will be passed back and forth all the time.

I've marked each slide that contains a video with a purple V on the bottom right hand corner for your reference (I missed slide 4 though apparently.  I'll update later).  Let me know if you would like any other reminder points on the slides.

Another thought I had for the final slide was the suggestion to join a club with a slide of the 3 clubs logo's and the meeting times.  Let me know what you think.

I've copied the PowerPoint presentation and renamed it "SS youth vers. 3.finaldraft_ClickMods.ppt" and what follows are the modifications made.  Let me know your thoughts and if you would like anything else customized if you can't do it.  Let me know if you want a copy of it also.  We will have to make arrangements since it is too large for this page or to Email.:

Changed the speed from fast to medium for the bullet items to show up.  Changed the delay for the bulleted items to appear to be more progressive to allow time for the information to sink in.  Delay is from 1 to 3 seconds.  Added a delayed "Then..." text and then a click to display graphic of a sampling of the 07 year sleds with the text "and Now".

Added “You are responsible for the person behind you” to the list on the bottom.  Made lettering in yellow for emphasis.  Many people don’t pay attention to the person behind them and just leaves it up to the trail sweep.  When there is a problem, this leaves a group scattered for miles when in certain circumstances this could be very dangerous.  What happens if the Trail Sweep has a problem?  Added comments to the notes section of the slide.

Increased the timing of when the pictures and graphics come into the slide so the effect of each can be realized before the next part of the slide comes in.  (Sled picture and “This snowmobile went through…” text comes up; wait 2 seconds; Then bring up the picture, “This fish house…” text, and then the box showing where the fish house is; wait 3 seconds; Bring up the “And destroyed the second house 175 feet away.” Text, and arrow.  Clicking will bring up the text “Non-fatal – alcohol involved.” text as a blind animation versus the fly-in that is used in the other animations on this slide.

11/24/2006

149-150, 156, 164

Changed the way the stats come in.  They now come in from the bottom in a 5 second interval.  Lines added to graphics so individual sections can be seen better.  Click to bring up the graphic so questions and discussion on where accidents can happen, etc. can take place.  Added comment to notes section.  What year are these stat’s from?

11/22/2006

178

Changed answer to show up after click instead of automatic timing.  Let me know if you want to use the Snowmobilers Wind Chill Chart in the slide show? 11/24/2006

Items to add to next years classes:

1.    When explaining the registration paperwork, It may be a good idea to have a slide show this on the overhead if explanation is needed.  This could be added to slide 3.

2.    Hand signal graphics on slide 126 in addition to the video's.  Possibly put collage of hand signals around the helmet.  If not enough room, make multiple clicks to bring up the different hand signals.

3.    Do you want break slides?  If so, maybe we could put something similar to "Join a Club", the 3 clubs logo's and meeting days and times?  We could use these slides at the end of the show as well.

4.    Slides like 44 and 45 should be made for divided highways and interstates.

5.
